Come on Irene!
Remember that little storm that brushed the eastern seaboard at the end of August last year? You probably didn’t hear much about it. In case you need a reminder, here is what Hurricane Irene looked like from space.
And while the majority of the east coast rushed to our big box stores to purchase bottled water, cat food and flashlights, there were a handful of brides and grooms who had planned on celebrating their nuptials outdoors, and were now nervously trying to deal with the most unwelcome of wedding crashers – Hurricane Irene. Some brides purchased umbrellas in bulk, moved their celebration indoors or even cancelled the whole wedding. But there were a few who tackled the storm head on with a smile and a sense of adventure. Leander Krulis and William Matos celebrated their love under a Sperry tent in Kennebunkport, mere hours before the hurricane pummeled the coast with heavy rain and winds. Not even Irene could have put a damper on this lovely couple’s happiness though. Every photo from their day shows a smiling face, dancing feet or two people madly in love.
Everyone at Sperry worked tirelessly to make sure all of our weddings and events could carry on as planned even with the threat of Hurricane Irene, as long as no guests or vendors were in danger. At the end of this wonderful wedding full of starfish, seashells and personal serenades, our Sperry boys spent the night taking down the tent just in time for Irene to strike. And this could not have been orchestrated without the help and assistance of all the incredible vendors – especially Melanie at Blissful Beginnings! Thank you for helping us make Leander and William’s wishes come true.
