The Birth of Sailcloth Tents
Accomplished sailmaker Steve Sperry founded Sperry Tents in response to the classic
American inspiration: necessity. To accommodate an expanding guest list for a family
function, Steve Sperry first created a sailcloth tent in the late 1970s by applying his
mastery of sail making. Identifying the potential for high-end wedding tent rental,
Steve and his sons Tim and Matt Sperry grew the project. Today, Sperry Tents are
made with the traditions and knowledge of hundreds of years of American sailmakers.
Sperry Tents now serve locations throughout the United States through a franchise
network of trained, certified dealers and service providers. Sperry Tents Seacoast was
founded by Bancroft Potter in 2006 after he apprenticed for seven years at Sperry Tents
Nantucket. Bancroft's Sperry Tents Seacoast now serves much of Northern New England for
wedding tent rentals including York, Maine; the NH Seacoast; Essex County, Massachusetts;
Westchester County, New York; and Western Connecticut.
